This was a re-run of the opening league game in the East of Scotland League Premier Division on Saturday, where it finished 0-3 to Tynecastle. Luncarty had a man sent off late in the first half of that and then conceded three times in the second half whilst down to ten men, two of the goals coming from the penalty spot. Tonight was a second round East of Scotland Qualifying Cup tie and an early chance for Luncarty to try and put Saturday’s defeat behind them. They got off to the perfect start, going ahead after just twelve minutes, finishing with a lob over the ‘keeper from just inside the box. Tynecastle had a goal disallowed for offside just before the half hour mark, but did draw level five minutes before halftime, shooting high into the net, after a corner from the right was played into the six yard box and not cleared. Two minutes before the break they made it 1-2, coolly dispatching a penalty, awarded for a trip on the right hand side of the box.

Luncarty had a real go in the second half. They had a goal disallowed for offside and also saw a header come back off the crossbar. Tynecastle also hit the crossbar late on themselves and in stoppage time Luncarty nearly levelled, but a free kick hit the inside of the post and bounced right across the six yard box before being booted clear.

Luncarty play at Brownlands Park, on the left hand side of the main road when heading north out of the village, sandwiched between the main Perth to Inverness railway line and the road itself. It is railed on three sides, with no access behind the far (north end) goal. The clubhouse/changing rooms are raised behind the near goal (where there was also a tea bar selling the usual fayre you’d expect at a Scottish Junior ground). New wooden dugouts are on the railway side of the ground, whilst the original brick built ones remain in place, with one on each side of the pitch.

For an afternoon match, you’d probably spot more trains than the three that passed during tonight’s game! Just St. Andrews United required to complete the Premier Division of the East of Scotland League for me now.
