This seemed a strange time and day for two Saturday teams to play a friendly. There was no problem with the F.A. ban on spectators affecting this match, as neither team are in Step 1-7 of the pyramid. Reigatians play in Senior Division 1 South, which is level two, of the Amateur Football Combination, which is not part of the ‘Step’ system of non league football, whilst Frenches Athletic are in Intermediate Division 1 (top level) of the Surrey South Eastern Combination, which is Step 8. Pitch 2 here at The New Defence is next door to the main ground, in the field beyond the left hand goal end if looking from the main stand/clubhouse.

It was a very tight match that was decided by just the one goal, a 30 yarder that the ‘keeper should really have saved.
