The match started and ended in dry conditions, but in between we had thunder, lightning and rain, which was heavy at times and left the pitch, which was in excellent condition, rather muddied in the goalmouths by the end. The Recreation Ground houses the car park, pavilion and main cricket pitch, then beyond the bowls club and pre-school buildings is Kings Field, which is where the football pitch is, along with a second cricket pitch.

This was 2nd versus 4th in the league table and it certainly didn’t disappoint as far as entertainment went. It was superb. Wargrave opened the scoring with a penalty, but Imaan Lions were awarded two themselves to go 1-2 up. The hosts once again edged in front only for the visitors to head in a stoppage time goal to make it 3-3 at the break. An own goal put Wargrave back in front, but it was level at 4-4 after an hour, when Kamran Khan completed a hattrick of penalties for the visitors. Unbelievably, the Referee then awarded a fifth penalty of the night, but Wargrave were unable to convert, with the striker hitting the outside of the post as he sent his shot wide of the target. Four minutes from time a free kick was headed in at the near post to put the hosts 5-4 ahead, before they made it 6-4 as the clock hit ninety minutes.

Above : Wargrave open the scoring with the first penalty of the night.
Above : The only one of the five penalties awarded that wasn’t converted.
